John Huppenthal has been a good friend of mine for years, and I believe he has represented his district and the people of Arizona with ability and distinction.  John is a straight shooter and an honorable man.  And like me, he does not cave into powerful special interests.  He is a true fighter for the taxpayer.

John Huppenthal: A Conservative Leader Arizona Trusts
John Huppenthal is an Arizona leader with a proven track record of delivering for constituents. For over twenty years, John has proven his commitment to our values of family, faith, hard work and good government.

John grew up in South Tucson in an economically disadvantaged household. He quickly distinguished himself as a good student and talented athlete. John attended college at Northern Arizona University (NAU) where he earned a degree in Engineering. He later earned a Masters Degree in Business Administration from Arizona State University (ASU).

In 1984, John was elected to the Chandler City Council by the largest margin in city history. As a City Council member, John quickly developed a reputation for outstanding constituent service. While on the City Council, John helped Chandler grow from 35,000 residents to over 100,000.

To meet the challenges of growth, John developed and implemented a comprehensive citizen focused city government culture and service system. He also helped implement a pay for performance system tying city worker pay to the percentage of citizens rating city government excellent.

These key reforms helped improve the percentage of residents rating city government as “excellent” from 18 percent to 35 percent, and raised the percentage of residents satisfied with Chandler city government from 85 percent to 97 percent.

In 1992, John was elected to the Arizona State Senate by a large margin. These were excellent years for reforming state government. John worked with other Republican leaders to help pass tax cuts of $1.2 billion dollars. Also, John helped pass other important measures such as “Truth in Sentencing” which established fixed-length prison sentences for dangerous felons. John earned the respect of his colleagues in the State Senate and was appointed Chairman of the Senate Education Committee. In this important position John lead the charge for education reform and improving Arizona’s schools. John achieved successful Senate passage of current year funding for Chandler, Kyrene, Mesa, Gilbert and Laveen schools. This additional funding amounted to millions of dollars of additional support for our teachers, parents and students. It helped make schools even more student and parent focused.

In 2000, John was elected to the Arizona House of Representatives by a large margin. As a State Representative, John continued to focus on making government more efficient and effective. John was instrumental in passing key measures to improve Arizona schools, and improve Arizona transportation.

John is married to Jennifer Huppenthal and they have two daughters, Brooke (ten years old) and Morgan (nine years old). John and Jennifer are active in their children’s education, and participate in community and church groups.

Today, John is a candidate for State Senate with a proven commitment to conservative values and to improving our community. He has the experience, work ethic and Republican principles to do an outstanding job representing our community in the State Senate again.
